“This is not an admission of guilt – I am just tired.” Albert (Alan Arkin) in “Going in Style.”
Robbing the bank that stopped paying their pensions is the plan for Arkin, Morgan Freeman (Willie) and Michael Caine (Joe) in the new movie from Warner Bros. “Going in Style.”
Oscar winners Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”), Caine (“The Cider House Rules,” “Hannah and Her Sisters”) and Arkin (“Little Miss Sunshine”) are a delight to watch in this funny buddy story of three friends who are sent on a crooked path after leading lives of following rules and doing the right thing when their income is suddenly cut off by corporate number crunchers. Wanting to stay solvent, protect their families and make good on lifelong promises, they set out to commit a crime in order to get back what they see as rightfully theirs.
Directed by Zach Braff, this comedy for grown ups is a reminder that at any minute, things can change – especially as we get older. Taking risks, having fun, being with people you love – all of these are integral to the story, and important to aging happily and positively, too. A theme that resonates is the responsibility most people feel to their friends and families to stick with what they say they’ll do, both for others and for their own sense of accomplishment and well-being.
Supporting cast includes Ann-Margret, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Christopher Lloyd.
