Help Me Choose a Paint Color for my Office!

There’s a well-used phrase that a woman needs a room of one’s own (thank you Virginia Woolf), and I am lucky enough to have just such a room. My office is my little personal space, shared with no one – though I’m currently housing my husband Peter’s guitars- he had to give up HIS room of his own since our kids have returned to the nest for a while. But other than that, everything in here is mine, mine, mine.

I spend hours in my office – I do paperwork for our family and our business, I scan photos (I still have hundreds and hundreds more to go), and most of all, I write. Last year I got a new desk and shelves which has been very helpful – much more storage space for me to be organized…and I love to be organized, that’s for sure. But I have grown so tired of the walls – they are a neutral brown – Huntington Beige, by Benjamin Moore – which is a terrific shade if there’s lots of color in a room, but in this room, there’s not much. And so I’m thinking about painting. And when I say painting, I mean we would paint…something I have to admit I have never done before. I have had a lot of things painted, and picked out many paint colors, but the actual painting? Nope, not me. Not Peter, either. But I’m sure we could do this – it’s not a big room.

I hear you all laughing, please stop.

I’ve been considering lavender. I know, it’s a little trendy and maybe a little too girly, but I like the idea of being surrounded by such a soft, soothing color. Lavender is also one of my favorite scents, and my giveaway today is a delicious smelling wreath…but more about that later.

So here’s what I need from you, my readers. Below you will find three colors that I am considering for this project – three variations on the color lavender. If you’d tell me in a comment which color you would choose, it would help me to decide! Also, it will enter you in the giveaway today. These paint colors are all from Benjamin Moore, and I found them on their website’s color gallery, where you could go crazy from all of the great colors!

So what do you think? is it

misty lilac, paint, benjamin moore, office, home improvement, free gift, giveaway, blog, midlife, empty nest

or is it

whispering wind, benjamin moore, paint, home improvement, office, free gift, giveaway, midlife, empty nest

or do you like

lavender secret, benjamin moore, paint, home improvement, office, midlife, empty nest

LAVENDER SECRET (I don’t like this name – it sounds like a “feminine protection” product).

Or, maybe you hate them all. You can tell me, I don’t mind.

I like the Lavender Secret best – it’s not as gray – more flower like. I can smell lavender !

Personally, based on those samples, I like Misty Lilac because it has a warmer feel. I’m into warmer colors these days!

Whispering Wind would be my vote, but any one of those are going to look great. I have been thinking a lot about painting and office redecorating lately too. Last two days I was looking at office furniture and playing with program idea boards. Just dreaming. I hope you post after pictures for us to see. Happy Painting!

If you’re really wanting in to look lavender, I vote for Misty Lilac. I think the other two are pretty but might read more as gray unless you have a ton of natural light. Whatever you choose, it will freshen up your room so much!

Definitely like the whispering wind most for an office and I am a huge purple girl – but this color is in that direction without being too little girl – it’s almost a light periwinkle/ will give you lots of accent options

Those are all pretty and it’s very hard to choose. I would have to say the Whispering Wind is my favorite. Can’t wait to see which you choose and the results!

I LOVE the Misty Lilac, my kitchen use to be that color in my old house and I absolutely LOVED it, everybody did. It instantly made you feel calm and easy. I created wonderful dishes in that kitchen and have heartfelt memories built around that color. I think it will serve you well.

The furniture is espresso brown, which I think would work well with any of these colors.

I am all for “Whispering Wind” for your office. I love that the color will give you a girly, soothing feel while still being very versatile. It can be toned down with slates and blue-greys or brightened up with corals or “tangelo”, the “It” color of the moment. And if I can paint a room, anyone can paint a room! That 3M Blue painters tape is saves the day. Have fun!
