Last weekend we went to Las Vegas to celebrate or anniversary. Twenty-three years of wedded bliss. Our friends Vicki and Seth came with us.
We’ve been friends with Seth and Vicki for nearly 20 years. It’s been so long and we’ve been through so much together that we’re so much more than friends at this point – we’re family. In fact, if you look at this picture, it might be kind of hard to figure out who’s married to who.
Please note that my husband Peter (that’s him on the left) has developed a serious blinking problem in photos. I mean, he ruins nearly every picture we take because he blinks. I’ve solved this problem with a neato little app called Skitch. Now, whenever he blinks, which is nearly all the time, I’ll just draw some cool sunglasses on his face and call it a day.
Vicki’s birthday was on August 25, so it was a double celebration. We saw Kevin Nealon in a one-man comedy show which was very entertaining, and we had two incredible meals at Jaleo and Cut. We sat at the pool – in the shade because it’s insanely hot in Las Vegas – and we gambled a bit – I taught Vicki the fine art of interactive slot machines (which are AWESOME) and Peter and Seth played blackjack.
Jaleo is at the Cosmopolitan hotel, which is the epicenter of gorgeous young people in Las Vegas. I kid you not when I tell you that every.single.girl was wearing a skirt up to her butt and heels six inches high. It’s quite entertaining watching a slightly tipsy young woman toddling around in heels that are impossible to walk in while pulling at her skirt to keep it from riding up so high that she may as well be naked. The Cosmopolitan has an incredible chandelier -
it hangs right in the middle of the escalators.
Vicki took a great picture of Peter and me. Here it is.
On the way to dinner at Cut, we walked by the Marc by Marc Jacobs store at the Forum Shops, which is at Caesars Palace, where we stayed – which, by the way, was fantastic – great service, beautiful new room. Try the Octavius Tower if you ever stay there – it’s brand new.
Here is what the window looked like:

What’s not to love about a big pink, polka-dotted elephant?
Cut is not so much a restaurant as it is an event. I think we had a total of six people serving us at one point or another during the meal. One of the most fabulous things was the teeny-tiny popovers – they were the size of a grape. The food was, to put it mildly, incredible. We had a great time with Vicki and Seth. Because Seth is a doctor we like to pick his brain about medical issues, and though Peter tried to convince Seth to be his primary care physician, Seth refused – probably the fact that he’s an OB/GYN had a lot to do with it.
Once again, Vicki took a picture of Peter and me to commemorate our 23rd anniversary. This time, even if Peter blinked, there was no way he could ruin the picture.

Some people think Las Vegas is a noisy, smokey, crowded, loud, indulgent, drunken mess of a place. And they would be right. But you know what, we love it anyway.
Happy birthday Vicki!
And happy anniversary, Peter. XOXO!!!!

First, Happy Anniversary! What a fantastic trip that was! LOVE those elephants. I’m going to check that app out because there are a couple of people who always blink in photos here too. Last, I’d like to WIN please. LOL

Sounds like you had a WONDERFUL time! I loved the pictures!
Funny fake sunglasses… a fabulous chandelier… and twenty-three years! How totally fabulous!
Happy anniversary! Looks like a great time – love that chandelier and pink elephant.
I need that app for my own pictures. I’m usually either closed eyes or squinting, or, if I manage to keep ‘em open, have this look like somebody hit me in the back of the head with a two by four.
May you celebrate many more good times together – with or without your eyes open!

Sadly I think the blinking is a permanent condition…
Thanks Beverly! I hope my husband recovers from this condition soon…but if not, the glasses will have to do
It looks like ya’ll had an amazing anniversary and your sunglasses to fix his blinking problem made me laugh! So glad you had such a good time celebrating! Happy {late} Anniversary!

What a fun trip! And I’ve heard about the Cosmpolitan — that’s the hotel with the crazy commercials, right? Anyway, congratulations on your anniversary and a wonderful friendship.
LOL, love the sunglasses! Congrats and happy anniversary!

Great blog Sharon, not that I am bias since you included me. Thanks for including us in your anniversary weekend such a blast. What’s not to love about a giant pink polka dot elephant and interactive slots! BTW I told my mom about them and she is excited to try them along with the “Wizard of Oz” ones that we finally played. Not sure what was more fun, playing the slots or watching you sing along with the Wizard of Oz every time Glinda appeared! Great weekend had by all, love you guys.
Thanks for joining us, Vicki! We had such a great time with you both.
Congrats on 23 years together! It looks like you had a great celebration. I love the shades you gave your husband. Pretty clever!

Very happy anniversary!
I love those bags, especially the vintage pattern on the 8×10 bag.
My husband and his mother always blink/blinked in photographs. I wonder if it is because they have light eyes and they are especially sensitive to the flash.

If I lived in Las Vegas I’d lose all of my money on the slots! They are so addictive.
Sharon – I agree with Vegas being a “noisy, smokey, crowded, loud, indulgent, drunken mess of a place” but I love it too. We’ve had so many fun weekends there and really? There’s no place like it.
Your husband has the same photo affliction as mine – you made me laugh out loud at the sketched in shades! Too, too funny.
Happy Anniversary – 23 years is something to celebrate!

Thanks for stopping by! Glad I could make you chuckle.
What better to celebrate than spending your life with someone. Love that you let all of us share the weekend with you, even those of us who have never been to Las Vegas. Maybe sometime IRL we can meet your lovely husband, but until then wishing you two many congratulations and very best of luck. Love the nail color…

We will have to arrange to meet sooner than later! The nail color was a push for me, but I figured it’s Vegas, so what the heck?
Happy anniversary Sharon! How fun to spend it in Vegas! Love the pics and the bags are adorable!

Happy anniversary but i have one question: Do you start seeing pink elephants after you’ve been married a certain amount of time? 10 years? 20 years? my boyfriend and i have been together about 2 1/2 years and i’m still seeing stars so i want to know what to expect ahead.
The pink elephants emerge after the 20 year mark. Then they dance around your head ALL the time!
“Twas a fun-filled time and an honor to spend such “naches” with you guys… at our age there are enough sad get-togethers that I treasure the celebrations. Sorry that I can’t be Peter’s MD but bi, tri, and uni are not the cycles with which I work! If he ever becomes pregnant I’m so there!
If he ever becomes pregnant I’m so out of here!
You really know how to celebrate an anniversary! Looks and sounds like a great time. Happy A you guys and many more. ♥

Love the app! Of course, congrats on the all those years of love, strife , really, am I doing this…? and of course, for hanging in there through it all. Love isn’t easy, that’s for damn sure. So glad to have met. Hope we continue to share words and tales.

Congratulations! What a great time. We went to Vegas for our 25th. Loved it! (It’s the only time we’ve gone; need to go back!) I love your way of fixing up the blinking situation. I wonder if there’s a fix for goofy mouth weirdness, which is how my hubby usually screws up the photos. Will have to check it out.

Congratulations, Sharon. 23 years is an accomplishment for sure. I agree with you about Vegas – I just love it. I spent my 50th birthday there a few years ago with 10 girlfriends and family members, and my husband and I go almost every year for a few days. Great food, entertainment and amazing people watching!
